The basic studies provide a general and professional fundamental education and are the precursor to specialized training in construction studies, i.e. house-building, cabinetmaking, house painting, masonry, plumbing and tapestry and floor laying. The average course duration is one semester in school.

The goal of the course is that the students acquire the understanding, knowledge and competence to attend to all manner of work in construction whether it’s in a workshop or installing cabinets, external or internal work at a construction site or maintenance or alteration work. The average duration of the course including the basic studies in building and construction trades is five semesters in school and 72 weeks of vocational training. The course finishes with the journeyman’s examination.
