Registration

for upper secondary school studies in 2009

Registration for upper secondary school studies is electronic, i.e. applications are submitted online. Students in grade 10 are given a password which provides personal access to the registration area. Students may apply for a password at www.menntagatt.is/innritun. The password will be sent to your email. Parents/guardians will also receive a letter from the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture providing them with information concerning the registration process.

According to changes in the enrolment process the standardized test at the end of compulsory school has now been terminated. Upper secondary schools now enrol students based on reports from the respective compulsory school and the secondary schools  themselves, in consultation with the ministry set the standards of admission requirements.

When does registration begin?
Registration begins on 15 May. From that date onwards, students can fill out an online application. The application may be filled out in stages and amendments made until the application deadline has passed. Students in grade 10 are urged to fill in their application early to get their requests in as soon as possible. Applications may still be amended until the application deadline has passed.

What is required?
As registration is online, students need to have access to a computer with an Internet connection in order to submit their applications. Such access is provided both in compulsory schools and upper secondary schools. All upper secondary schools offer assistance if needed.

What documents must accompany the application?
Students in grade 10 need not submit copies of their grade 10 results with their applications, as their grades will be sent electronically to the schools to which they apply. Certificates or special information about students that cannot be included with the electronic application must be sent to the relevant school by regular post.

Who provides assistance or advice?
Educational counsellors in compulsory and upper secondary schools are familiar with upper secondary education, and applicants are urged to seek information and advice from them. It is best to seek advice early as the month of May it is very busy.

How is the application submitted?
An electronic application form and instructions on how to fill it out are available on menntagatt.is. Diverse information about upper secondary education may also be found there.
